Ludwig family from Kronstadt - Brasov Siebenbuergen Romania
Ludwig family arrived in Kronstadt Brasov Romania between 1826-1848.
They came from Dittersdorf am Kirchberg (Detrichovice, Bruntal), Austrian Silezia (catholic).
They spent about 5 years in New Arad, Banat, Romania.
It is possible that before arriving to Kronstadt they lived also in Hermannstadt (Sibiu), Romania.
I found the Ludwig family in the Kronstadt address books from 1850 to 1916.
They had a place in the Blumenau catholic cemetery closed in 1987.
Henriette, the first wife of Leopold, died in 1861:
Anna Agnes Neumann born in 1840 in Jihlava (Iglau), now Czech republic was the second wife of
Leopold Ludwig born in 1824 in New Arad Banat Romania. They married in Kronstadt in 1861.
Leopold's brother, Franz Ludwig, married in 1850 in Hermannstadt (Sibiu) Romania with Magdalena
Hummel as second wife. First wife of Franz Ludwig was Elisabeth Pichler who died in 1850.
Leopold was Strumpfwirkermeister - knitwear (socks) manufacturer. He was outside the Guild
from Kronstadt because he was catholic and the Guild was reformed - Evangelical.
Franz had a guest house. From that place started the horse coaches to Hermannstadt and other
towns from the Western part of the country.
Leopold started the first knitwear (socks) factory in Siebenbuergen, Romania.
The buildings are still on their places. The factory was powered by a water mill which is in the
taller building on the left side of this old print.
In the middle the big house is the place where was born Anna & Leopold's last daughter, my great
grandmother Victoria (1872-1957).
Leopold had also a store in the old town, at number 533. Now it is a place with pancakes.
Victoria's birth record:
Anna died in 1874 and Leopold married the third time with Anna, Anna's cousin from Iglau !
Leopold died in 1888 in Ploiesti, Romania.
He had 18 children with 3 wives but nowaday there are descendants only from 3 daughters of his second wife:
I found a captain (Hauptmann) of the Feldjager Bataillon, Maschinengewehrabteilung (machine
gun) on the WWI casualty list, but I don't know if he is related with my Ludwigs:
Leopold's brother, Franz
